Hillington distillery makes the case for Glasgow as a whisky destination
A decade after it began distilling, The Glasgow Distillery Company is opening its doors to visitors as it pushes for the city to be recognised as a modern whisky centre.

Glasgow was once the commercial centre of the Scotch whisky trade, home to blending houses and export networks – but for a long time it had no single malt of its own.
The Glasgow Distillery Company, founded in 2014 and based in Hillington, set out to change that. It now produces three single malts under its Glasgow 1770 label – a triple-distilled expression, the Original and the Peated – alongside a Small Batch Series using experimental cask finishes.
The distillery has also worked with Scottish craft breweries on collaborations, and its Banditti Club range explores rum cask maturation.
Global marketing manager Sebastian Bunford-Jones said the company wanted to give Glasgow a distinct identity within modern Scotch.
Its whisky has been championed by city venues including The Pot Still, while the distillery has partnered with the Grosvenor Picture House, Glasgow Science Centre and local hot sauce maker The Condiment Man.
After strong demand for its first public tours, launched in July, visitors can now book to see how the whisky is made at the Hillington site.
