More communal bin hubs are expected to be installed across Glasgow from April 2027, according to a council report.

The purpose-built hubs sit at the front of properties and serve around 40 flats each. The council says they are meant to boost recycling, reduce missed collections, make work safer for bin crews and help keep back courts tidy.

Almost 700 hubs have been installed so far, across four pilot areas and the whole of the south-west of the city. A Freedom of Information response showed more than £2.5 million has been spent on supplying and delivering them, and that around 21,000 properties were benefiting as of July 2026.

Responding to questions from councillor Stephen Curran at a scrutiny committee, officials said the programme has been paused while the first full phase is evaluated.

The next phases will focus on mainly tenement areas where there are existing health and safety or accessibility problems with bin collections. The response is due to be discussed at an upcoming meeting.
